1. Can I get government loans and allowances?

Yes, Pathways students are eligible for government loans and allowances. You will need to apply directly to StudyLink to begin the process of getting any government loans and allowances. Our office here at the college can assist you with this.

2. Can I transfer any of this into university, or another bible college?

Yes, we have a formal partnership with Carey Baptist College, Laidlaw College and Otago University School of Theology where by completing a Diploma of Christian Studies (Level 5) with Pathways will cross-credit to the equivalent of one year towards a Bachelor of Applied Theology at Carey. Due to the diplomas being NZQA accredited you can also transfer the majority of it into any Bible College. We have had some students receive transfer credit at university and polytechnics as well.

3. Are the courses NZQA accredited?

Yes, the courses are NZQA accredited. For a full-time internship student this means upon one year of study you can finish with a NZ Diploma of Christian Studies (Level 5).

NZQA Statement:

  • Pathways College is "A private training establishment that has been granted registration by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under Part 18 of the Education Act 1989."
  • NZQA awarded the College a category 3 result after completing its most recent External Evaluation and Review (EER) in 2019.
  • NZQA is Confident in the educational performance of Pathways College of Bible and Mission.
  • NZQA is Not Yet Confident in the capability in self-assessment of Pathways College of Bible and Mission.

4. What can these courses lead to?

It honestly depends where the Lord is leading you. A number of our students don’t want to enter full-time ministry, but simply want to strengthen their relationship with Jesus and become better equipped at serving him in a local church or ministry.

Some students transfer their Pathways College studies into another Bible college to complete their Bachelor Degree. There are always a good number of students who want to enter full-time ministry in a local church or para-church and use their studies to prepare them for this.

5. How does the split of academics and ministry work?

For the full-time internship diploma the academic and ministry is split 50/50 where 16 hours of your time each week is spent on academics (assignments, readings, etc.) and 16 hours is spent on ministry (at a church, para-church, or camp). And about every six weeks there is a one week block course (this is where all your lectures take place). The dates and location of the block courses will be sent to you well in advance.

For an online student there are no ministry hours required.

6. How much do the courses cost?

Full-Time Internships: Prices differ between level 5 and level 6 studies, and differ if you are a domestic or international student. To view a full price breakdown please refer to the Full Time Internships Costs Section.

Pretty much anyone can do an online course. We've had people from all ages do online courses and they have loved it. There is great support from a tutor who will help you with any questions throughout your course.

8. How should I decide doing full-time internship versus online courses?

As for number four above, it depends on where the Lord is leading you. If investing a year or two full-time into growing in your relationship with Christ and developing significant skills and gifts to serve him well is what you want to do, then the full-time internship diploma is for you.

If the Lord already has you serving him somewhere maybe in university, a job or at home caring for children, then the online courses will serve you well. Many of the online students have full-time employment, or are at home raising children and do the study in their ‘spare’ time. A course can be done in as little as 2-3 hours a week over a semester.

9. Can all of the courses be completed remotely (what about overseas)?

Remote studying can be done via our online courses. At the moment we have list of 11 courses online. We are adding more courses all the time. We do have overseas students but at present they need to hold NZ citizenship or residency

10. What capacity will my internship placement be involved?

Very involved. Your internship placement is where your primary ministry will take place (15 hours a week). Internship students are also required to have mentors covering three roles: academic, ministry, and spiritual. These mentors tend to come from the placement organisation but not always.
